When should I register?
It is important that you register with us on the first day you are unemployed. Then the unemployment insurance fund can assess your right to benefit from the first day of unemployment.
When you register with us on the first day you are unemployed and are actively seeking a job, another authority, or municipality, may assess your right to benefit. For example, the social insurance agency Försäkringskassan may decide on your qualifying income for sickness benefit allowance, SGI.
Fill in all the information you can. The more you tell us the faster we can help you.
How do I register?
- Log in with your electronic identification (mobile bank ID for example).
- If you don't have an account on arbetsformedlingen.se, you'll need to fill in your details and create an account.
- Once you have created an account and are logged in with your electronic identification, you can start your registration as unemployed.
- You will need to fill in details about, for example, your education, previous jobs, skills and what job you are looking for.
- When you register, you should make an appointment for a planning discussion with an employment officer. Do you already know now that you will start working or studying within 3 months? Then you will only use our digital services and do not need to book a planning discussion or have contact with an employment officer.
If you do not have your own computer or smartphone, you can visit a service office and borrow a computer.
Apply for unemployment benefit
If you are unemployed, you can apply for unemployment benefit while you are looking for work. How much money you can receive depends on, among other things, how much you have worked previously and whether you are a member of an unemployment benefit insurance fund.
Contact your unemployment benefit office and apply for benefit. The simplest way to do this is to log into your unemployment benefit office’s website.
If you are not a member of an unemployment benefit fund, you can apply for membership and basic compensation when you become unemployed. If you do not want to become a member of an unemployment benefit fund, you can apply for basic compensation from the “Alfa-kassan” fund.
Get prepared before the planning discussion
You should book a planning discussion with an employment officer as soon as you register. Do you already know now that you will start working or studying within 3 months? Then you will only use our digital services and do not need to book a planning discussion or have contact with an employment officer.
It's a good idea to prepare for the meeting and start planning on your own. Then the meeting will be more effective. You can for example:
- review and update your CV
- think about what kind of work you want to do.
What happens at the planning discussion?
Your first meeting with us is a planning discussion lasting a maximum of 30 minutes. You and an employment officer look at the following, among other things:
- your skills
- what jobs you are looking for
- what support you can get from us
- what you should do to achieve your goals.
We also go through whether there is anything that means you may need extra support and assistance in order to apply for jobs and work. For example, if you have a disability, diagnosis or problems with your health. We then investigate, together with you, what support you need in order to work.
