Labour market training

Labour market training is short-term vocational training that you can take through Arbetsförmedlingen. The training prepares you for work in occupations with high demand for more staff.

How labour market training works

A labour market training does not guarantee a job, but it improves your chances. The duration can vary, but is usually no more than one year. The training is full time. We assess whether labour market training is relevant for you.

What labour market training is and how participation works. English subtitles.

Labour market training are carried out by different training providers throughout the country on behalf of Arbetsförmedlingen. We recommend a study visit with one or more training providers to get more information and see if the training and occupation suit you.

All labour market training begin with a preparatory step at which the conditions for your participation in the training are determined. The training vary in length, but are usually no more than one year.

What to do

  1. Contact Arbetsförmedlingen – Find out if you are entitled to attend labour market training.
  2. Find a labour market training that interests you.
  3. Visit the training provider – Attend a study visit to learn more about the training and occupation.
  4. Contact Arbetsförmedlingen – Contact us again for an assessment and decision on whether you may attend the labour market training you have chosen.

Basic requirements

We assess whether you may participate based on several factors. Among other things, we look at previous education, professional experience, opportunities for getting a job and labour market need. To participate, you must be registered as a jobseeker and you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • You are at least 25 years of age.
  • You are under 25 years of age and you have a disability that affects your ability to work.
  • You are at least 18 years of age and are considered to be a long way from entering the labour market.

When you receive a decision on participation in a programme, such as a labour market training, you may apply for financial compensation from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan). If the programme is held in another city, you may also apply for a contribution for travel and accommodation expenses.

If you need to improve your Swedish language skills before or during participating in a labour market training, you may be eligible to study occupational Swedish.
