Labour market training for persons with visual impairment

If you have a visual impairment or are partially sighted, taking adapted education or training, tailored to your individual needs and circumstances, may be a way in to the labour market.

What

Labour market training that is adapted to your visual impairment will help to improve your opportunities for finding work. The training is adapted to you as an individual. The content of the training course means that, immediately after the training course is finished, you can

  • get employment in your occupational and geographical search area
  • start education or training, such as municipal adult education, training at a vocational college or one of Arbetsförmedlingen’s procured occupationally oriented training courses
  • start a business as a self-employed person.

The training consists of two parts. The first part is preparatory and includes a personal inventory, study orientation, job experience and jobseeker activities. The second part of the training is with an employer and consists of workplace-based learning and preparation for employment.

For whom

Labour market training for persons with visual impairment is a training programme for those who are, or risk becoming, unemployed. You need to be registered with us as a jobseeker. You must also have a documented visual impairment or partial sight that means that you need to have adapted measures so as to be able to find work.

How it works

  • Arbetsförmedlingen decides whether labour market training for persons with visual impairment is a form of training that would be suitable for you.
  • You can combine this training with Swedish for Immigrants (SFI).
  • Various suppliers around the country offer this training and these are permanently based in the counties of Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Skåne. The training can also be taken in nearby counties.
  • A great deal of the training takes place in a workplace.
  • If needed, 20 per cent of the training time each week can be in the form of remote self-study.
  • You take part in the training for up to 46 weeks.

Compensation and conditions

When taking this training, you participate in a programme and are able to apply to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency for compensation. You can find information here on how to apply for compensation and what applies when you are registered with Arbetsförmedlingen and participating in one of our programmes.
