Contribution for personal assistance

What

The purpose of the contribution for personal assistance (bidrag för personligt biträde) is to help you get and keep a job. The contribution can also make it easier to participate in a labour market programme or in workplace-based learning (APL) through school. If you are self-employed and have a disability that results in a need for a personal assistant, you are also eligible for this contribution.

A personal assistant is an individual who is appointed to help you carry out routine tasks or to handle routine work situations that you cannot manage by yourself. You carry out these tasks supported by the personal assistant.

Your employer can receive financial support for personal assistance. The contribution is SEK 60,000 at most per year. If you are self-employed and have a disability that results in significant communication difficulties, then as an entrepreneur you can receive a contribution of up to SEK 120,000 per year.

Your employer, or you if you are self-employed, can receive the contribution for as long as you need the support of a personal assistant to manage your work tasks.

Who

Your employer can receive support if your capacity to work is reduced due to a disability and

• you have or will have a job in which you need personal support in order to manage your tasks,
• you are attending upper-secondary school and need personal support in order to participate in workplace-based learning (APL), or
• you need personal support in order to participate in a labour market programme or vocational rehabilitation.

How it works

• Contact the Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen) if you need personal assistance at work.
• If you are not registered with the Public Employment Service, you must sign up in order for your employer to receive the contribution.

• Your employer must submit documents to us that demonstrate your need for a personal assistant.
