If you plan to participate in rehabilitation to be able to work

If you plan to participate in working life-focused rehabilitation, you can receive support from both the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) and the Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen). Your administrator at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency can give you information about how this works. After that, we will meet and make a plan together for what support you need in order to work.

You, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, and healthcare providers are the ones who will determine that you need support in order to work, based on your circumstances. Your administrator at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency schedules an initial meeting with the Public Employment Service. This person also gives you more information about what will happen at the meeting. Prepare by thinking about what information you think it will be important to give to the Public Employment Service at the meeting.

What happens at the meeting?

You, your administrator from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, and the administrator from the Public Employment Service attend the meeting. Others might also need to be present, such as your doctor or a trustee, if you have one.

We will go through your circumstances related to your ability to work together. We will consider what you have done for work before, your education, and your experience. How you view your situation and what you would like to be able to do are important to us.

At the meeting, you will learn what support the Public Employment Service can offer you and how to contact us.

Planning is guided by your circumstances

Together, we will come up with a joint plan for your rehabilitation. Your description of your circumstances for starting to work is important for planning.

We support you during rehabilitation

Then you will take part in measures, based on your plan, to test your ability to work. Both the Public Employment Service and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency will provide support during this time and we will regularly meet with you for follow-up.

One common measure is to test your ability to work at a workplace with support. You will get to try tasks based on your conditions, and can make adjustments if needed. Both the Public Employment Service and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency will follow up with you to see how it is going.

Meetings with us are usually online using a computer or phone. If the two agencies see that you need an in-person meeting, we will meet at the premises of either the Public Employment Service or the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

What happens next?

When you have tried working and we see that it is going well, the Public Employment Service and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency prepare to finish our work together. Before we do, we review the plan for next steps together with you. If the plan needs to change, we will discuss it and modify it accordingly.

Measures, treatment, or rehabilitation that you receive through the medical system can be ongoing while activities from us are ongoing. You will receive compensation (ersättning) from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) during this time.
