Svenska för invandrare, sfi

If you are a new arrival in Sweden, on the Swedish for immigrants course you learn the basics of the Swedish language. The municipality where you are registered organises the course.

What

Swedish for immigrants, svenska för invandrare - sfi, is a language education course for those who are new to Sweden and who cannot speak Swedish. You learn to speak, read and write in Swedish and practise using the language in everyday and working life. The aim is that you will have a basic knowledge of the Swedish language. The course is available at different levels to suit everybody.

You can study full-time or part-time. You can often combine your studies with work or other studies. You receive a certificate after the course.

For whom

Swedish for immigrants is for those who do not have Swedish as their native language and who need to acquire a basic knowledge of Swedish. You need to satisfy the following conditions:

  • you have a residence permit
  • you are registered in a municipality
  • you are at least 16 years old.
