When you are taking part in a programme, it is important that you let us know if you are temporarily taking care of a sick child (VAB). If we do not know why you are absent, you risk receiving a warning or losing your benefit.

Who must notify absence to take care of a child (VAB)?

Tell us if you are taking part in a programme and cannot take part in your scheduled activities because you are at home to take care of a child who has fallen ill.

When must you report absence to take care of a child (VAB)?

Notify us on the very first day that you are at home to take care of a sick child. Otherwise you risk receiving a warning or losing your benefit.

If you are taking part in a course, work experience placement, Swedish for Immigrants (sfi), or some other activity, you also have to notify them of your absence.

When you apply for benefit from Försäkringskassan you must fill in that you have been absent to take care of a sick child.

What benefit do I receive when I take care of a sick child (VAB)?

You receive benefit for the days you take care of a sick child. You thus continue to receive payment in the form of activity support, development allowance or introduction benefit for these days.
